MSC CoSim 2025.1 Overview

MSC CoSim 2025.1 is the latest release of Hexagon’s co-simulation platform, designed to enable seamless coupled analysis across multiple physics solvers.
MSC CoSim is MSC Software’s concurrent simulation platform, enabling the connection between multiple simulation domains (e.g., Adams for multi-body dynamics, Marc for structural analysis, and scFLOW for CFD) to perform multi-physics simulations at the system level. Its goal is to streamline data exchange and synchronization between solvers, improve iterative efficiency, and support integrated design optimization.

Key Release Highlights

Enhanced Adams–Marc Coupling

  • Smart Time Increment Selection: The CoSim engine now considers both its internally calculated time increment (dt_new) and Marc’s estimated time increment (dt_est), using the smaller value for simulation steps.
  • Benefits: Improved convergence and performance, especially for highly non-linear simulations that previously required frequent cutbacks.

Marc-scFLOW and MSC Nastran-scFLOW Coupling Improvements

  • New Iteration Control Parameter: A minimum number of CoSim iteration loops can now be specified via the CoSim Condition Wizard for:
    • Iterative CoSim mode in Marc-scFLOW
    • Static CoSim mode in Nastran-scFLOW
  • Benefits: Prevents premature loop termination, enhances stability for complex or non-linear systems, and simplifies setup for fluid-structure interaction problems.

Thermal Co-Simulation Enhancements (Marc-scFLOW)

  • Thermal co-simulation is now supported via the new scFLOW COSIM command specification.
  • Requirements: Cradle CFD 2025.1 scFLOW pre/solver.
  • Note: Advanced features like 6-DOF separation and restart are only available with the new command specification.

GUI and Workflow Improvements

  • New command specification options added to the graphical interface for easier setup.

Supported Solver Integrations

MSC CoSim 2025.1 facilitates co-simulation between:
  • Adams (Multibody Dynamics)
  • Marc (Nonlinear FEA)
  • MSC Nastran (Structural Analysis)
  • scFLOW (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
